Researching different subject matters
I am unsure whether to research into Commercial publishing or Book Covers, both are interesting to me and have positives factors to both.
Commercial Publishing
I am very interested in this subject and have aspired to become an illustrator whom specialises in this area. Heres some research I found;
"Commercial publishing includes; advertising, education, financial institutions, publishing houses, magazines or newspaper."
"There were an estimated 196,000 UK publishing jobs in 2019 according to the data from the Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport (DCMS).
The DCMS estimates that in 2019 the value of publishing goods exported from the UK was £2.84bn and the value of exports was £1.83bn."
"The UK Publishing contributes to the rest of the creative industries"
"A report for the Publishers Asssociation by Frontier Economics estimates that productions that originated as books generated 44% more in UK film box office revenue (53% more globally) 58% higher viewership of high end TV productions and nearly three times more ticket sales for theatre and cinema"
This means that when a production is based off a book, it does on average 50% better than when a production isn't based off a book. This is probably due to the audiences already being aware of the premise of the book and are more inclined to see it expanded and created into a film or TV show.

Illustrators in the Commercial publishing industry.
You would have to convey a message effectively with an illustration for the intended audience to be a successful commercial illustrator. You would also have to have skills in; painting, drawing and photography.
You can join advertising agencies, commercial printing, education, magazines, newspapers and an in house illustrator.
Illustrators create and design the cover of the book, interiors, vinyls, advertisements and websites. They have the ability to present information in a variety of ways. It is key to know the concepts of fine art, visualisation, originality, print and visual media. They work with a range of people and once a projects ends you are assigned to a completely different task.
